Reduction of Complications

Reduce risk of infection

One of the most common, hospital-acquired infections in the USA and Europe is ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), which can be caused by invasive ventilation. These illnesses not only affect patients but also the budget: according to a study published in 2000, hospital-acquired infections caused annual costs of 29 billion dollars in US hospitals. 3.

In the case of non-invasive ventilation, on the other hand, the number of possible complications falls by 62 percent 10,whereby the mortality rate for non-invasive ventilation is considerably lower than when breathing through a tube11. The occurrence of side effects caused by sedatives, given to the patient for pain relief purposes so that he/she can breathe with the tube, can also be reduced by non-invasive ventilation methods.

Reduce side effects

It is also possible to avoid complications in the field of patient monitoring, for example during continuous arterial blood pressure measurement. Non-invasive blood pressure monitoring (CNAP) can reduce the risk of haemorrhages or hematoma, which can occur during conventional invasive blood pressure monitoring.
