Dräger Medical Technology sells off English manufacturer MPL to focus on core business
Dräger Medical Technology, Lübeck, has sold the English company MPL, Medical Products Limited, Stockport/Manchester, to Penlon Limited in Abingdon/Oxfordshire. With its 30 employees, MPL achieves annual sales close to DM 10 million.
In acquiring MPL, Penlon Ltd, a British company whose portfolio includes gas components for medical applications, is taking over an area which does not form part of Dräger's core business. MPL produces medical gas supply systems and components conforming to British Standards.
The sales contract drawn up between Dräger and Penlon includes a long-term supply contract which allows both companies to concentrate on their respective core capabilities and which gives Dräger the security of knowing that, in case of need, it has at its disposal a reliable supply source, especially for example when submitting tenders to equip hospitals in the Middle or Far East, where British standards are commonly used.
As part of a process of restructuring which was initiated last year with a view to concentrating on critical care and operating theatres in the hospital, Dräger's Medical Technology division had previously already discontinued construction of its modular hospital units.
