| Lübeck, 2 September 2004 – Lübeck-based Drägerwerk AG, as has been reported for quite some time, is currently taking a close look at the issue of location. A project has been launched to analyse the Dräger Medical site in Lübeck. |
| Over the past decades, Dräger Medical has grown considerably and its internal processes have become increasingly complex, with the result that the existing structures at the Lübeck headquarters are no longer ideal. Some parts of the site date back to the start of the previous century and, what is more, are divided by public roads. |
| Dr Wolfgang Reim, Dräger Medical CEO: "The competitive pressure on the world's markets has become even greater. Our potential for optimization at the company's current site in Lübeck will be exhausted by ongoing programmes. If we are to remain competitive, radical changes will need to be made, for example with respect to physical structures and the flow of goods and communication. The limited measures which can be undertaken within today's structures in the interests of continued, sustainable growth, and the likely high costs of renovation and conversion, pose an obstacle to competitiveness at our current site. Alternative sites for Dräger Medical in and around Lübeck, in Northern Germany or indeed outside Germany now need to be given consideration to allow us to pave the way in good time for long-term competitiveness and cost-efficient site structures oriented towards knowledge management.“ |
| To this end, a comprehensive site analysis is being carried out, focusing on how to optimize the communication flow, enhance productivity and increase the company's attractiveness for staff and customers alike. In a parallel step, an analysis of communication processes is being performed with a view to developing an optimized building structure for knowledge design.
With immediate effect, a proposal is to be drawn up in both sub-projects and presented to the competent bodies by the end of October. This will then form the basis for concrete plans so as to allow a decision to be taken by the end of the year 2004, in consultation with the competent bodies, about the future building structure and future site of Dräger Medical.
