The Draeger SCBA Challenge

After a series of rigorous comparison tests conducted by the Phoenix Arizona Fire Department, The Draeger PSS7000 was judged the best of all SCBA’s on the market. The competition wasn’t even close. Out of a possible total of 1000 points, the three highest rated SCBA were:

1. Draeger PSS 7000 = 821 points
2. Sperian Warrior = 710.5 points
3. MSA FireHawk M7 = 645.4 points

Points were awarded in seven categories. All proposals were evaluated on the basis of:

  • Fit and function, 375 points.
  • Written proposal content, 200 points.
  • Price, 100 points.
  • Ease of maintenance, 50 points.

The three highest scorers were then evaluated for:

  • Live fire testing, 150 points.
  • Options available, 100 points.
  • Communications, 25 points. [1]
