Draeger Medical Canada, Inc. today announced the
award of a contract to provide an advanced Anesthesia Information
Management System (AIMS) for the Capital District Health Authority and
IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Capital District Health Authority and IWK Health Centre to Implement Anesthesia Information Management System
Innovian Anesthesia is the next generation of the most comprehensive
information technology solution for the safe delivery and management of
anesthesia. It is currently being used successfully in over 130 hospitals
worldwide.
The Capital District Health Authority (CDHA) is Nova Scotia’s largest provider
of health services. As an academic district, CDHA operates hospitals, health
centres and community-based programs, serving 400,000 residents and
providing specialist services to the rest of Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada.
IWK Health Centre is a prominent teaching and research hospital founded in
1909 to provide care for women, children and families in the Maritime
Provinces and beyond. IWK and CDHA serve as the referral centres for the
entire Maritime Provinces with a population of approximately 1.8 million.
“We are honored to partner with the Capital District Health Authority and the
IWK Health Centre as they fulfill their mission to continuously enhance
delivery of patient care, while improving the efficiency of their operations and
performance,” said Jeff Wilding, General Manager, Draeger Medical Canada,
Inc.
Dr. Michael F. Murphy, Clinical Chief of Anesthesiology at Capital District
Health Authority commented: “The AIMS system is a powerful tool that helps
decrease medical errors, improve efficiency, and decrease health delivery
costs. Data is automatically collected for regulatory compliance, billing and
research. Users can quickly access a wide range of information for continuous improvement of healthcare delivery.”
The patient-focused system provides a seamless flow of critical information for
the safe delivery of anesthesia from pre-op through surgical and post-op care,
data collection and billing. Prior to surgery, Innovian captures all the vital preop
information including a patient’s previous surgical history, allergy data and
current tests to evaluate a patient’s specific care needs.
During surgery, the system gives doctors and nurses the information they need to
focus on the patient, flag potential problems and enable quicker therapeutic
responses. It improves post-op care by enabling clinicians and nurses to
proactively prepare for a patient’s arrival. It provides them with instantaneous
access to information and the ability to remotely view surgical operations in
progress.
